Sarina's Story

In 2010, our youngest daughter was born. Little did we know then that this little girl would forever change our world. Soon after her birth, we discovered that she was born with a little something extra and was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. At first, we were filled with worry, grief, and fear of the unknown. But it didn’t take long to realize that this little girl completed our family and taught us more in her short time on this earth than we learned in our lifetime. She has taught us to slow down and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us.

It’s not a race but yet a journey. And although this journey has not always been easy, it has brought a tremendous amount of joy, love, and gratitude. This Café has been named in honor of our daughter Sarina, who has shown us to stop and enjoy the moment.

Kallie's Story

At the age of 4, our daughter, Kallie, was diagnosed with a malignant germ cell tumor on her spine. During treatment, we would always get a bowl of ice cream to celebrate all the little milestones. Even when she barely had an appetite to eat, we could always count on her enjoying a big bowl of ice cream at the end of the day. After months of chemotherapy and surgery to remove her tumor, Kallie became cancer free and continues to remain cancer free to this day. To celebrate all the little milestones with your loved ones and enjoy an ice cream today at Kallie’s Kones.

Our Team

A handpicked team of local individuals who are dedicated to carry out Sarina’s message;  Remind us to slow down, have fun, enjoy the beauty that surrounds us and continually lifting one another up, to be the best we can be.

Katie Taricani-Hickey

OPERATIONS MANAGER

"I was interested in food for as long as I can remember. Every memory of my early life was attached to some delicious meal; be it my Pop-pop’s meatballs, or fresh rye bread from our local bakery that we’d walk to weekly.”
At 14 Katie took her first job in a kitchen and never looked back. She graduated from Johnson and Wales with a degree in culinary arts and completed a long internship with America’s Test Kitchen, Cook’s Illustrated, and Cook’s Country. This experience rounded out her career in the industry, in her teens she learned to cook others recipes, by the end of her time at J & W she was perfecting her own.

Out of college she spent a few years as an assistant manager of Nordstrom’s Cafe until she became pregnant with her first child. After 6 years of staying home with her children she decided to get her feet wet in the food industry again. She created Hungry Mother Kitchen specializing in custom cakes and treats for special occasions.
“My love affair with food and the industry is at the core of who I am. As a mother I strive to feed my family with healthy food that hopefully sparks memories like my Pop-pop’s meatballs did for me all those years ago. My goal is to create treats for Sarina’s Cafe with the same expectation- to feed your family as I would my own."

Julie Genese

EVENTS MANAGER

Julie, a Georgetown resident, was born and raised in the Deep South (Alabama to be exact). Here is where her everyday life brought together family, friends, the love of baking, and all the entertaining that goes along with it.  When it came to college, it was no surprise that she decided on Auburn University to study Hospitality. After graduating with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management with a focus in Business, Julie decided to move to the Northshore of Massachusetts to start her career and begin a family. Many years later now she’s continuing her passions and love of entertaining and food at Café Sarina. Her goal at the Café is to blend the baking traditions of the South with the local cuisine to help create familiar treats with unexpected twists. Julie brings her expertise along with her warm and inviting personality to every occasion she’s creating for at Café’ Sarina, guaranteeing it will be a memorable one. So whether it’s a quick bite during the day, a stop on the way to work, or a party for 100+ guests, Julie will be here to ensure each visit to Café Sarina feels like home.
